We've been busy!
Reaching Out to Our Wider Communities
In the last several months the OWCN Management Team has had the opportunity to narrow in on one of our 4 R's, Reaching Out.

You may be wondering, What is our reach?
This is a good question, we wonder too. Where we see it first hand, is at various tabling events. We are able to fully immerse ourselves in conversation with the people from all over. Another way we reach out is here, through our blog, our quarterly newsletter and our social media accounts.
Lastly, my personal favorite is writing back to the students who write to us. Our e-module reaches classrooms all across the United States. Students practice washing feathers that have drops of oil on them and we love hearing from them. Our entire team is able to respond to various letters via snail mail and it's kinda fun to answer complicated questions with the space of a card.

What have we been up to?
In Danene and Wendy's Blog a few months ago they talked on their Community Partners Day at SeaWorld San Diego.
In collaboration with the International Bird Rescue and OSPR, we met with the East Bay Park Regional Parks team recently at the San Fransisco Bay Oiled Wildlife Care and Education Center. We were able to reconnect with some and introduce ourselves and our program. HUGE Shout Out to Kelly Beffa the International Bird Rescue Center Manager for taking time out of her day to give a tour of the facility.

Additionally I was able to go to the César Chávez Youth Leadership Conference, I spoke to upwards of 600 students at a large expo where 1400 students attended aged middle school - senior year. I was there to speak on different types of careers you can have in wildlife and so many hadn't even opened their minds to the idea of wildlife emergency response. The younger students were able to experience the options and the older students got the chance to work through their goals. It warmed my heart to be around the students, the conference was a hit and I hope we get to return in the future.

Some of our future plans include virtual chats and events at UC Davis. IF you or your member organization is interested in partnering with us please email owcn@ucdavis.edu to connect!
Until next time!
