Hello to the OWCN Network!
I can’t believe I am entering my 4th month with the with the OWCN! To say I am settling in is an understatement! I have had the pleasure of joining several working groups, committees AND of course joining in on the planning fun. With each passing week I continue to meet new people and connect some faces to names, and I couldn't be more thankful for each interaction.
In the last few weeks, we’ve juggled spills, a mutual aid request and preparation for several different upcoming events. Including our Town Hall! This August 24th, from 10:00am-2:30pm.
This will be a virtual event filled with updates of what has been going on. Since last November the OWCN has responded to 8 spills near and far to Davis, and we want to take a moment to share out some of the highlights. (Without giving away too much there will be talk of beavers and herps).
Our Public Information Officer (PIO), Eunah will present on our current media practices and we plan to have two separate panels, one discussing responder insight from recent spills and another about HPAI.
Sprinkled in there we have a few announcements and some progress updates on a few different projects that have been happening behind the scenes. .. Some of which will be new information even to me … :D
This meeting will qualify for your biennial continued education requirement to remain an active responder with the OWCN. You can sign up for this Town Hall in your Responder Profile – there you will get your zoom registration link.
What is continued education?
A frequently asked question and something we do keep track of. Below you will see a nice visual, but to answer the question, anything listed below will keep your ‘Core Webinar, BRT, OWS, and Manager Training’ expiration date(s) updated. In order to move forward (or up) within OWCN we ask that you partake in various engagements, spills, or trainings to keep your skills fresh.

We really appreciate your time and commitment to the OWCN and we are excited to offer more and more opportunities to keep you engaged and ready to respond in the event of a spill.
As always, I can't wait to continue meeting more and more folks within the OWCN, and until then Stay Cool!
